Well what to do, as my good friend Tevye the Milkman said above, it’s a shame being poor but no great honour either….

I am technically looking for work now, and for the very reason above. I love my job (I really do) but I do not get paid my worth at all. It misses by about 12K or 8K as I work for a not for profit. I don’t want to leave but there is only so long you can be that underpaid.

I sat in a meeting with the 3 new members of staff listening to my boss go on about how great the internship progamme is; 2nd best in the country; been used as a benchmark; talked about in parliament; the programme to use to set yours up by etc etc etc

300k of new funding, 65% increase in workload for me (100 internships in 14 mths, 177 now in the same time) but still on 23k and can’t get 5k payrise when, if I am honest, the work I am doing is worth 35k

Anyway, I digress……….. but bollocks to it none of you that read this are hiring so what’s it worth saying

Those 3 people that read this have probably noticed that I have been a little quiet for the last few weeks, my mind has been elsewhere.

I have a new job (yes, another one!), I have been with Aquent for just under 5 months, enough time for me to realise that I had made a mistake and that I shouldn’t have gone back into agency recruitment.

I thought long and hard and came to the conclusion that I didn’t want to be 40 and doing this. Too many nights of 4 hours sleep and waking up at 4am thinking about work; too much of my wages dependent on other peoples decisions, plus the economy wobble has made it all the more harder (ah, bless. He can’t hack it any longer)

“So what is the job?” I hear you ask, well I’ll tell you.

I am going back in-house (yes I know…. why did I leave iCrossing then?) for WA Business News, West Oz’s leading business newspaper, well respected and solid brand in the Perth.

It’s more money (a fuck load more money) and I am excited by the prospects there.

I have handed in my notice to my current job, and also my visa. I am now waiting for my new 457 visa to be confirmed. There is a small possibility that it won’t, there is a small possibility that I will be returning to the UK (Can I have my job back please Arjo? Ray, please?)

I’ll keep you posted on how things go, have 4 weeks to go at Aquent. New job starts on 6th October….. Oh yeah, suited and booted too (I will post a picture of that)
